happy holidays

This illustration appears in the new issue of River Styx literary magazine, accompanying the story Pitching Pennies by George Singleton.

I have more work in a show coming up later this month, including the image from my previous post below. More info on that at a later date.

So for weeks I saw myself sitting astride of a fine horse. My shoes had sky-blue bottoms to them, and I was riding off to look at the belly-band of the world.

Show + Projects

I have some work in Off the Page, On the Wall in Takoma Park, an exhibit of local illustration in the DC/Baltimore area. Opening was last Thursday, followed by a talk by Brad Holland. The show is open until November 30th.

I also just started a new side project with some friends from art school, where we send each other creative stuff through the mail.

AI 30

I forgot to mention this when I found out initially, but I am included on the website of American Illustration 30 in their slideshow of selected images (although I did not make it into the classy printed book version). 3 different images from my Russia and Cairo projects were chosen. Yay!

NaSkeDraMo

Last month I participated in the semi-official National Sketch Drawing Month. The premise is to make one sketch a day, every day, for the month of July (or most days in July, in my case). Below are a few of my favorites that came out of this month of drawin':

Show

I'm having a small show next month of some of the work I made in while traveling in 2009 in Russia, Ukraine, and Western Europe. It will be a few selections from the pile of sketches and illustrations I made while traveling, some of the pieces that I think turned out best and that work well when put together.

Details: Space 7:10 at Kefa Cafe in Silver Spring, 963 Bonifant Street. Show runs March 1st-March 28. Opening reception March 4th.

In other news, one of my pieces (below) was picked for the 22nd National Print and Drawing Exhibition.

There is another Art Carnage happening January 29th, and once again I will be there selling seasonally appropriate greeting cards and postcards made from my papercuts, like this one:

If you are the kind of person who is into small craft fairs and local vendors and all that then consider going and checking things out. Art Carnage is one of the more up-and-coming of these markets, meaning the prices are cheap, and there is a good variety of things available. Info is here

Show

Illustrator's Club of DC is having a member show at Gallery 1820 at the Art Institute of Washington. The opening reception is this Thursday from 6-8, and the work stays up until February 20th. I have two pieces in this show (above and below).

Lots of other good things coming this month, including another Art Carnage at the end of January. I've been making new work, and will try to post some of it later this week.
